Number-one ranked UFC heavyweight contender Cyril Gane has some words of warning for the division’s new interim champion: “see you soon.”
Gane, himself a former interim heavyweight champion, took to X to congratulate Tom Aspinall after his impressive victory over Sergei Pavlovich on Saturday night at UFC 295.
“Congratulations, Tom,” wrote the French Muay Thai specialist. “You are now the champion and become the one being pursued, and I am the hunter. See you soon.”
Two weeks ago, however, rising Brazilian heavyweight Jailton Almeida called out “Bon Gamin” after defeating Derrick Lewis at UFC Sao Paulo.
“I want Ciryl Gane,” said after his victory, as reported by MMA Junkie. “We can do it in Paris. We can do it in Salvador. We can do it wherever. I’m ready. Let’s do it, Ciryl Gane.”
Gane got back in the win column in his last outing, a second round TKO over Sergey Spivak. Like Almeida, Gane also has a prominent win over Lewis, having defeated “The Black Beast” to claim the UFC interim heavyweight title in 2021.
The undisputed title eluded him though, with Gane suffering defeat against Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones in his two attempts at the championship.
