Sean Strickland says he got emotional, cried during podcast with Theo Von

The UFC middleweight champion apparently teared up during a discussion on a podcast with comedian Theo Von. Posting to X, Sean Strickland said the “wall broke a little bit,” joking that his allergies were acting up and that it “wasn’t (his) finest moment.”

Strickland seems to have recently finished recording with the comedian, who has not yet published the episode featuring the UFC champion.

“(I don’t know) what to do now…” Strickland wrote on X. “I think I need to go buy an iPhone and a tesla, adopt a cat, all vegan diet… maybe start f*cking dudes IDK.. LMAO”

Strickland was on the receiving end from some personal trash talk this weekend from title challenger Dricus Du Plessis. During a quarterly press conference, the challenger told the champion, “You think your dad beat the sh*t out of you? Your dad doesn’t have sh*t on me,” referring to past abuse discussed by Strickland. “Every childhood memory you have is gonna come back when I’m in there with you.”

Former Bellator and new UFC signee Michael “Venom” Page thinks this kind of trash talk has gone too far.

Josh Shahidi, an influential figure behind the NELK, Full Send and Happy Dad brands, appears to have heard the conversation. Replying to Strickland on X, he remarked that Strickland’s emotional moment was “powerful” and “a message to a lot of us who have been through something similar.”

Strickland and Du Plessis are set to square off in the main event of UFC 297, scheduled for January 20 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
